Alas, Lady Gaga, aka Mother Monster to her fans, posed for photos upon arrival in Brisbane last night (for her first Australian Born This Way Ball concerts) that required her publicist's approval. The image was "reviewed by PR prior to transmission" and only one picture was released showing the singer disembarking from a plane.

The quirky pop star has also banned media from filming footage and taking photos at her concerts, only allowing fans using their mobile phones that privilege.

Gaga's photographer will be taking the only media photographs of the show, with the singer approving an image for local media release at the end of her concert. This photographic protocol has been in place throughout the Asian and New Zealand legs of her tour so far.

Gaga has divided opinions as to the reasons behind the media ban. On the one hand, restricting official images encourages fans to see her concerts, and allows them to engage in the spirit of sharing via social media -- of which Gaga is Queen -- their happy snaps of the tour with each other. On the other hand, there's the potential that a 'Katy Perry: Part of Me' type film could be in the works which would increase the value of official footage of the star should it come to fruition.

Gaga's Australian leg of the Born This Way Ball kicks of tonight in Brisbane, with the first Sydney show to be held on June 20.
