Angelina Jolie's father defends Brad Pitt's mother's comments

LOS ANGELES ( - Last week, Brad Pitt's mother made headlines with an anti-gay letter-to-the-editor in which she called on conservatives to support Republican presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney.

Now, Angelina Jolie's father is coming to her defence.

Jon Voight, in comments to Fox News's entertainment site, said he supports Jane Pitt and agrees with her anti-gay, pro-Romney views.

"Good for her," he told Fox411's Pop Tarts column.

Doug Pitt, the three-time Oscar nominee's brother, also defended his mother earlier this week during an appearance on the "Today" show.

"I think mums and dads and kids agree to disagree all over the world," he astutely noted. "So why would our family be any different? There can be healthy discussion when people disagree with you. The bad thing is when it turns to venom and negativity, and we don't have that in our family."

A publicist for Brad Pitt declined Fox's requests for comment.

Jane Pitt sparked the controversy when she published a letter in her local Missouri newspaper, the Springfield News-Leader, urging conservatives to rally behind Romney because, despite being Mormon, he shares her views on same-sex marriage and abortion.

"Any Christian who does not vote or writes in a name is casting a vote for Romney's opponent, Barack Hussein Obama - a man who sat in Jeremiah Wright's church for years, did not hold a public ceremony to mark the National Day of Prayer, and is a liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage," she wrote.

The Fox story also focuses on death threats Jane Pitt apparently has received, citing expletive-laced tweets that call on her to "die." It also links to a story by WorldNetDaily - the conservative news site that peddled articles questioning the legitimacy of President Obama's birth certificate - which says she has received death threats at home as well.
